Greetings dance family,
I know it feels clichéd to comment on how fast the summer has flown by, but seriously: how is it almost back-to-school season?! We've had a delightfully action-packed summer full of camps for all ages, and we're excited to take a brief pause to regroup and get ready for the fall semester.
In case you missed it, the fall 2023 schedule AND registration info is now LIVE on our website! You'll notice that we now have a “Parent Portal” link for registration/enrollment. We're adopting a new software system that is helping us streamline things like forms, waivers, schedules, events, rubrics, and tuition. Since it's new to us, we're figuring it out as we go - so if you have any issues or confusion, just reach out and we'll troubleshoot together.
Registration Instructions:
For both new AND returning students: If you have NOT yet set up a parent portal, go to https://blacksburgdancetheater.com/classes and click on the button below "New Families." This will prompt you to fill out a registration form, and then you'll be able to view and sign up for all available classes.
Adult students should also fill out the parent portal registration form (whether or not you’re a parent), which will give you access to all class signups.
You should receive an email confirmation of your class registration. Let us know if you don’t - and check your spam folder!
Bring A Friend Week (Try before you buy!)
Our first week of classes (Tues, Sept 5 - Mon, Sept 11) is, as always, Bring a Friend Week! Dancers of all ages may try as many classes as they want all week before committing to enrollment. Bring any friends who might be interested in trying out our classes for the first time - or just bring yourself! You will not be charged for enrollment until after September 12.
You will not be charged for fall enrollment until after September 12, but please register for the classes you plan to attend that week so we can get a head count. Then you may drop any you do not plan to continue attending after Sept 11th.
Youth Tuition Information:
Please note: This fall, we are transitioning from billing on a semesterly basis to a monthly tuition structure!
Payment is still available via cash/check in the studio dropbox OR online through Quickbooks, and we will invoice you for tuition monthly based on the total number of hours that your family is enrolled in. So, for example, if you have two children each taking a 45-minute weekly technique class, you'll be billed monthly for 1.5 hours/week.
Rather than a sibling discount, we've included a built-in discount structure so that the more hours you enroll in, the lower the hourly fee.
You can find our new monthly tuition rates here: https://blacksburgdancetheater.com/tuition

New System for Adult Technique Classes!
In the past, we've struggled to figure out the best way to get accurate head counts on adult drop-in enrollment. We want to honor the need for flexibility in schedules, but we also need to know if there will be a critical mass for class each week. So we're trying a new system for adult classes as well! Here's the new deal:
Adult technique classes will be held in 4-week mini-sessions, and adults should plan to commit to each 4-week chunk. The price for each 4-week session will be $55/class, and we WILL continue to provide a college student discount.
Financially, this is comparable to the 10-class pass, but offers us more ability to count on attendance numbers and helps us lesson plan appropriately for the experience levels enrolled in each mini-session.
If you have to miss a class, you're always welcome to attend any other adult technique class to make up for the absence (just email us to let us know what class you'll be dropping into), but we won't prorate tuition for missed classes.
If you have already purchased a 10-class card and it’s not yet used up, we will apply the balance towards your tuition this semester!
We've got a TON of exciting special workshops planned for this semester on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (schedule coming soon!). These can be purchased either as a one-time drop-in ($15), which will be available for enrollment on our events page. Alternatively, you may also commit to these for the entire 4-week mini-session at $55/session ($13.75/class)

We’ll have more information coming your way soon on our fall workshops, performances, and ways to get involved with our first annual Love Your Body Week - but this should be enough to get you started with planning for your semester. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about registration, scheduling, or anything else on your mind.
Much love,
Rachel
