It’s nearly time for our spring performance! Please read carefully below for FAQ regarding everything you’ll need to prepare for this week’s rehearsal and showtime 🤗
1. Where and when is the show happening?
Our spring performance will take place at the VCOM amphitheater, located at 2100 Kraft Drive in the VT Corporate Research Center.
Dress rehearsal will be on Friday, 5/5 at 5:30-7:30 pm. The youngest dancers will be released as soon as they practice their dance.
Showtime is Sunday, 5/7 at 4:00 pm!
See photo below for reference:
There is no street parking available directly in front of the amphitheater. Please park in the adjacent lots at 2200 or 2000 Kraft Drive and walk over to the amphitheater.
2. Will my dancer’s class be meeting at the amphitheater this week?
Due to today’s dreary weather, our Monday classes will meet at the studio. However, the forecast for the remainder of the week looks to be sunny (see: no-rain dance!), so ALL other classes will meet at the VCOM amphitheater during your regular class time.
Your dancer does not need to bring their costume for their regular class time; they do need to arrive to dress rehearsal wearing their costume.
3. How much do tickets cost, and do we need to reserve them ahead of time?
Admission is $5/person at the “door,” payable by cash, check, or Venmo. We will have a table set up near the stage for accepting payment. There is no need to reserve tickets ahaed of time, as the amphitheater is quite large, and can accommodate plenty of folks.
4. Is there a rain location?
Yes! Though the forecast is currently lovely for the remainder of the week after Monday (EVERYBODY DO A NO-RAIN DANCE), we do have the Blacksburg Unitarian Church lined up as a backup rain location in the event that unexpected inclement weather blows in.
In the event that we end up having to move to the rain location, you will be emailed with details, and we will also put up a banner on the main website page at www.blacksburgdancetheater.com.
5. What does my dancer need to bring to the dress rehearsal and performance?
Please bring the following to the dress rehearsal and performance:
Costumes. Dancers should arrive in the costume they are performing in FIRST. For those dancers who have quick changes, please see the heading below about changing areas.
Hair and makeup. Please consult with your dancer’s teacher about how their hair should be done for their dance. Dancers are welcome (but not required!) to wear whatever makeup makes them feel fabulous (within reason - no full face KISS makeup please).
Water and snacks. Dancers should plan to stay nourished and hydrated - and family members are welcome to pack a picnic for both the dress rehearsal and show!
Something to sit on. For audience members - lawn chairs and/or picnic blankets are encouraged!
6. What about bathrooms and changing rooms?
There will be bathrooms available up the hill at 2000 Kraft Drive, but it’s a bit of a walk, so please attempt to plan ahead.
We will have a private “changing tent” set up behind the stage area for dancers with quick changes; if your dancer has a quick change, please plan ahead and have their costume pieces staged in the changing tent. We can organize and practice this during dress rehearsal.
7. Will there be video and/or photos?
Yes! We will have a videographer and photographer on hand at the performance. Video will be a suggested donation of $20, and will be provided via password-protected link after the performance.
Photos are on us, and a google drive link will be emailed out the week after the show :)
8. I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS!
No problem! Email us at blacksburgdancetheater@gmail.com, or call/text director Rachel Rugh at 828.273.5397.
We can’t wait to see your dancers shine this week!
